I am thrilled to announce that I have successfully completed the Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP), a voluntary initiative by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) designed to recognize the efforts of non-credentialed tax return preparers who aspire to a higher level of professionalism. The AFSP requires participants to complete 18 hours of continuing education, including a six-hour federal tax law refresher course with a test. By fulfilling these requirements, I have earned the AFSP – Record of Completion, which not only enhances my knowledge but also demonstrates my commitment to providing high-quality tax preparation services.
One of the key benefits of this program is inclusion in the IRS's public database of return preparers, known as the Directory of Federal Tax Return Preparers with Credentials and Select Qualifications. This directory assists taxpayers in identifying qualified tax professionals, and being listed is a testament to my dedication to maintaining up-to-date expertise in tax law.
Participating in the AFSP also grants me limited representation rights before the IRS. This means I can represent clients whose returns I have prepared and signed, but only before revenue agents, customer service representatives, and similar IRS employees, including the Taxpayer Advocate Service. It’s important to note that only attorneys, certified public accountants (CPAs), and enrolled agents have unlimited representation rights.
I am committed to staying informed about the latest tax laws and regulations to provide the best possible service to my clients. Completing the AFSP is a significant step in my ongoing professional development, and I look forward to assisting you with your tax preparation needs with enhanced knowledge and confidence.
